Children of Labor is a stop-motion piece whose concept derived from the idea of “heroes and villains” that was created by myself and motion designer Mina Valizadeh. In the piece, the heroes are the people who choose to support a child’s future, and the villains are those who enforce the hazardous working conditions these children endure.
We experimented with stop-motion animation and cel animation for the first time in this piece, and our cinematographic direction was inspired by the short film titled, “The Eagleman Stag” by Mikey Please. We felt it would be appropriate to construct our set out of white foam core to match with the cold, winter mood with added high contrast lighting.
